Schulz, Kenneth R. “Swede”

Kenneth R. “Swede” Schulz, age 86, of New Glarus, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026. He was born on January 12, 1940, in Harvard, Ill., the son of Fred and Helen (DeVries) Schulz.

Kenneth grew up on the family farm near Hebron, Ill., and graduated from Alden-Hebron High School in 1958.  He began farming with his parents in 1959 and in 1972 he moved his family to a farm in Kittleson Valley near Mount Horeb. Due to health reasons, he retired from farming in 1987 and began working as a custodian and driving school bus for the Mount Horeb schools. He also drove bus for New Glarus schools for several years.

On September 22, 1987, Kenneth married Marcia Lust-Sutter. Together they purchased property and built a home in New Glarus and enjoyed camping in their motor home with their RV Club. Ken also had a good time restoring his Studebaker with his good friend, Kevin Orloff.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Marcia; his children, Kendall (Amy) Schulz, Kathy (Jeff) Hanna and Karol Schulz; his siblings, John Schulz, Jim (Carolyn) Schulz, Russ (Hubertus) Schulz, and MaryBeth (Bill) Peden; his grandchildren, John, Nathan, Jamie and Kyle; his great-grandchildren, Kendall and Kaydence; his stepchildren,  Jon (Kathleen) Sutter, Carey (Dan) Krohn, Joe (Lynette) Sutter, and Mark (Sandi) Sutter, Tina Sutter; his step grandchildren, Jamie (Tom) Erickson, Michael (Sara Jean) Sutter, Hunter (Rina) Krohn, Jared (Gina) Sutter, Laura Sutter (fiancé Justin Murphy), Kory (Danielle) Hoffmaster, Kasey Hoffmaster, Ben (Theresa) Bryan, Chris (Leah) Bryan, and Lindsey Bryan; and 19 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Helen; his brother, Bill Schulz; his sisters-in-law, Karen and Connie Schulz; his stepchildren, Jeff Sutter, and Elizabeth and Tim Hoffmaster.
