Peterson, Margaret “Maggie” Ann

MONTFORT - Margaret “Maggie” Ann Peterson, age 79, passed away with her family by her side on Saturday February 7, 2026, at St Mary’s Hospital in Madison. She was born on August 24, 1946, the daughter of Russell and Vera (Russell) Wachter.

Maggie grew up in the Woodman area and graduated from West Grant High School.  She devoted her life to raising and caring for her family, a role she cherished more than anything. Her strong faith guided her daily life and shaped the kindness and generosity she shared with others.

Maggie found joy in many simple pleasures, especially gardening and tending to her large flower beds. She loved fishing, spending time outdoors, and had had a special fondness for birds. Creative at heart, she enjoyed sewing, crafting, baking, and making Christmas candies, traditions that her family will always treasure. She also loved playing the piano and was affectionately known as the “Queen of Sequined Dress ware”.

Always spunky and ready for fun, she embraced new experiences. She enjoyed riding the four-wheeler and making new memories with her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her endless happiness. She also loved teaching the kids games like checkers and rummy.

Maggie is survived by her four children, 12 grandchildren,  and two great grandchildren; daughter, Jodi (Craig) Wienkes and their family: Brinn (Kevin) Heins, Luke Wienkes, and Drew Wienkes of Mineral Point; daughter, Jenifer (Tim) Hoffman and their family: Joseph, Samuel, and Qynn Hoffman all of Mt Hope; son,  Jay (Jennifer) Peterson and their family: Alyssa of Boston, MA, Jones, Anders and Powell Peterson all of Phoenix, AZ; and daughter, Jaci Peterson of Livingston and her family: Levi and Dane Hirsch of Livingston; and great grandchildren, Rilyn and Brogan Heins. She is further survived by her brother Dennis (Maxine) Wachter of Mt. Hope; two sisters, Marilyn (Jim) Faulkner of Prairie du Chien and Kayla (Roger) Herbers of Woodman; along with many special nieces and nephews.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses with St. Mary’s Hospice and the nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital for their wonderful care.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date. The Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore is assisting the family and online condolences may be made at www.larsonfuneralhomes.com
