Loeffelholz lights it up against Bulldogs

One thing was certain in Iowa-Grant boys basketball coach Shawn Dailey’s mindset.

This time around when the Panthers faced Boscobel it would not be as easy as the first time they met the Bulldogs.  That was a 70-30 I-G win.

“We hadn’t played on the road in over two weeks,” Dailey said.  “Boscobel had been playing very well and were fresh off a big upset against Cuba City.  Plus they have a new facility we are not familiar with.”

So when the Panthers won the SWAL match-up 55-35 it was a weight off  Dailey’s shoulders.

To get the 20 point win the Panthers had to find someone to step up as the Bulldogs were chasing scoring leader Sam Lundell all over the court.

“They gave Sam extra attention from the start,” Dailey said. “Their game plan was to make him give up the basketball.”

It was nothing new to Lundell or the Panthers. They have seen it before. They knew what was needed was others stepping up.

“Treaton Loeffelholz did just that,” Dailey said. “He was a beast down low and got it going from the outside, hitting three of four three pointers.”

Dailey was happy to see that.

“It’s fun calling plays for Treaton when he his in that zone. He makes me look really good.”

Loeffelholz finished a big night with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Grant Rickard added 11 points for the Panthers and was a key to the win, Dailey felt.

“Grant did a good job with the mismatch,” Dailey said. “He has been coming on of late and his last three games have been his best. When he is playing at a high level we ae a very dangerous team.”

The Panthers closed out a busy stretch of three wins in a four day stretch,

“It was a good conference road win,” Dailey said.
