Pointer softball wins on Bockhop one-hitter


Mineral Point’s softball team dominated with pitching and defense to claim a 14-1win over Saint Francis in a non-conference game Friday.

The lone run scored by the Spartans was unearned.

Tenleigh Bockhop went the distance to control the Spartans. She struck out 10 in a one hitter. She walked one.

Maddy Kabat was pefect at the plate with a 4x4 performance. Three of her hits were doubles.

Austy Kinch homered for the Pointers and drove in two runs.

The Pointers plated eight runs in the sixth inning to put the game away.  Jadyn Schultz drew a walk and went around the bases to score. Aida Tuttle hit a sacrifice fly for an rbi.  Ava Ingwell drew a walk scoring one run. Chloe McVay drew a walk and scored. Leah Hoffman singled for a run, Kendall Wenger drew a walk and scored. Stephanie Wallace drew a walk, scoring one run, and Sophie Miller drew a walk to drive in a run.

A ground out by Hoffman put thePointers on the board in the top of the second.

The  Pointers committed an error, which helped St. Francis tie the game at one in the bottom of the second.

In the top of the third, Mineral Point broke up the tie when one run crossed then a triple by Bockhop followed to extend the lead to 3-1.

Mineral Point added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning on four hits. Kabat doubled, scoring one run, and Kinch homered to center field, scoring two runs.

The Pointers collected 12 hits in the game. Kabat set the tone at the top of the lineup with four hits in four at bats. Kinch and Hoffman each drove in two runs for the Pointers. Ingwell collected two hits in three at bats.

Momentum carried into Saturday as Mineral Point defeated East Dubuque 9-1. Ava Ingwell led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 at the plate to pace the Pointers.

In the championship game, Mineral Point battled past Oregon, winning 5-4. Sophomore Austi Kinch powered the offense with two home runs, while Kabat delivered the decisive blow in the sixth inning with a clutch two-run homer to put the Pointers ahead for good.

With the win, the Pointers secured their first-ever Orangeville Tournament title, marking a historic achievement for the program
