Gordon, Dennis W. “Denny”



Dennis W. “Denny” Gordon, age 80, of Dodgeville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. He was surrounded by family members as he entered eternal life.

Throughout Denny’s life, he worked at Federal Refrigeration, Dodgeville School District as a janitor where he was known as ‘The Fonz’, House on the Rock, Walnut Hallow, and Iowa County Highway Department mowing grass along county roads. Denny was Owner and Operator of the Gordon’s Handyman Service for many years which included a variety of work such as painting, chimney cleaning and repairs, roof snow removal, remodeling, mowing yards, and deconstruction of many buildings in the Dodgeville area.

Denny met his wife, Mary V, while making laps around Darlington main street. Denny and Mary V married on November 30, 1968 and raised three children.

Denny was a long-time groupie of the Good Ole Family Band and loved dancing to all of the polka music. He was a dedicated stage hand with setting up and tearing down equipment. Denny referred to this period as one of the best times of his life.

Denny was a long-time member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where he volunteered with the fish fries and pasty sales. He volunteered for many years at the Shades of Silver in Mineral Point with helping seniors on fun field trips and activities.

Throughout his life, Denny enjoyed preparing for and having garage sales including going to some too. Spending time in the outdoors with camping, hunting, fishing, cutting wood, gardening, and canning. He was a dedicated Packers fan and always had fun playing cards with family and friends. He adored his partnership with Mary V on crafting projects along with selling their crafts at various farmer markets. Spending time with family and visiting his mother frequently was important.

He survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary V Gordon. Denny and Mary V raised three children, Christy Beatty (Keith), Dwayne Gordon (Heidi), and Susan Sargent (Robbie Marr). The family expanded to three grandchildren Katelynn (Wes Ellery), Nora Sargent (Timothy Stoney), and Nevaeh Sargent. Further expanded with two great grandchildren Irelynd and Warren.

Denny was also survived by two sisters: Peggy Reger (Glen) and Betty Jo Stude (Paul), nieces and nephews: Angie Vadyak (George), Tammie Scadden (Steve), Kimberly Stude, and Jason Stude (Rachel), with many great nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Harold Gordon and Lenore Gordon, and a grandson Hunter Gordon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Dodgeville. Burial will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville and from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

Denny will be remembered most by his thoughtful, kind hearted gestures freely given to others.
