Eagles pull away for convincing win

Sometimes it takes awhile to figure things out but Barneveld basketball coach Tyler Sullivan would like to see the Golden Eagles find another timeline.

The Eagles finished off River Ridge Thursday in a game of two halves....again.  The Eagles had a one point deficit at intermission before locking in the second half and easing to the 75-54 win.  Sulivan would like to see the “again” be a thing of the past and have the Eagles put up a strong first half.

Hunter Larson, who led the Eagles with 20 points, was a force the second half with 16. Judson Poad nailed a pair of threes to help the second half and finished with 16. Ty Thousand had six of his 10 and Cooper Shipman five of his 10 the final 18 minutes/

The Eagles did some long range sniping that paid off as they buried a dozen triples.  Poad had four, Larson three, Brigham Schauff two with Shipman, Kaydn Schlimgen and Thousand all getting one.

Eagles coach Ty Sullivan is hoping some changes can happen to get away from the roller coaster affect.  Simply put he wants to see two consistent halves from the Eagles.

“Hopefully we don’t make a habit out of this,” he said. “It was another game where it was two completely different halves for our team. First half I thought we played well in spurts, but we let there aggressiveness affect what we were trying to do on both ends of the floor. We let Davis beat us to the middle a couple of times and he did a really good job either scoring or facilitating. They also hurt us on the boards in the first half which is something we cleaned up at half. We battled hard thoughout and found ourselves only down one at half.”

The Eagles changed things for the better after intermission.

“Second half our boys really came out focused and we brought great effort,” a relieved Sullivn said. “I could see it in there eyes that it was a game they wanted.”

“Everything we talked about at half we executed in the second half,” the coach said. “We ran great offense and had good looks every possession, and we did a great job getting the ball out of Davis’ hands and rebounding. Of course it helps when we are making shots, as we hit 12 threes tonight, but our defensive effort was excellent the second half too.”

Sullivan is hoping to see the team adjust to playing two strong halves.

“We will keep working hard to come out from the start and put a complete game together.” Sullivan said.  “Ridge was another great team, and one I am really proud of our guys for showing up and getting a tough road win.”
