Kathy Gardner, age 77, of Barneveld, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Milestone Assisted living in Cross Plains.
Kathy was born on April 25, 1948, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, the daughter of Leslie and Viola (Seippel) Groom. She attended Mineral Point High School, graduating in 1966. On November 12, 1966, she married John Gardner at SS. Mary & Paul Catholic Church in Mineral Point, sharing 57 years of marriage together.
Kathy was a devoted stay at home mom and homemaker while her children were younger, when her children where school age she went to work for Lands' End in the phone center and retail store that is where she found her love for retail, she also worked / managed The Bargain Nook in Spring Green, where she remained for over 25 years before retiring. She enjoyed traveling and camping, but her greatest joy was her family, especially her time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Kathy was a strong woman whose quiet strength, steady presence, and devotion to her family defined her life.
Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Gardner; her parents, Leslie and Viola Groom; her brother, Doug Groom; her father – and mother -in-law, Roy and Violet Gardner; her brother- and sister-in-law, Gerald and Carolyn Gardner; her sister-in-law, Barb Renz; and her brother-in-law, "Corny" James.
She is survived by her children, John (Amanda) Gardner, James (Sandy) Gardner, and ViAnn (Ryan) Lampman; her grandchildren, Jessica (Andy) Bunkoske, Devin (Tamika) Gardner, Jacob Gardner, Joseph Gardner, and Sophie Lampman; and her great-grandchildren, Lane, Kyrie, Eli, and Ila. She is also survived by her brothers, Greg (Dori) Groom, Mark (Laurie) Groom and Pat (Sabrina) Groom; her sister, Angie (Dennis) Sailing; her sister-in-law Judy James; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Kathy will be laid to rest next to John at Eastside Cemetery in a private family service. The Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home, Dodgeville is assisting the family. Online condolences may be made at www.houckfuneralhomes.com
