Gibbons, Daniel Michael

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Daniel Michael Gibbons, 81, of Verona, WI who passed away at Agrace Hospice on February 9, 2026, after an ongoing battle with cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing.

Dan was born on December 23, 1944 in Chicago, IL to Timothy and Alice Gibbons. He was raised in Chicago, IL and attended the University of Illinois where he graduated with a Doctorate of Dentistry in 1968. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam War.

In June of 1968, Dan married his beloved wife, Theresa. Together, they experienced many life adventures such as serving the local community through their dental practice, traveling near and far, and raising three beautiful children. Above all, Dan considered his greatest accomplishment to be the love and devotion he gave as a husband, father, and grandfather.

Dan enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in dentistry, owning and operating his practice in Mineral Point for 50 years. He deeply valued the relationships he built with his patients and was grateful for the trust and support of the community he served. He cherished his dedicated staff throughout the years, with special recognition to Bobbie Johnson, Mary Jo Shannon, and Karen Jorgenson.

To know Dan was to know he had a thirst for knowledge, was full of curiosity and energy, with many great passions and hobbies. To capture his spirit in a few short words is difficult. He consistently had more than one book in rotation and, at the same time, could be found browsing articles to further his research and understanding. He loved animals, especially horses, and spent many years riding and training. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, walking daily, and gardening in season. Dan had an exquisite ability to nurse just about any plant back to full bloom. He was always willing to try a new hobby such as crocheting, art lessons, and photography. He enjoyed activities such as ice skating, skiing, and yoga. In the last few years, Dan found particular joy in the Gerofit Exercise Program through the VA and attended over 500 classes. He was a valued and respected member of the Wisconsin Dental Study Club and the Men's group at Orchard Ridge United Church of Christ. He loved going out to dinner with family and friends, especially when the evening ended with a shared dessert. His spirit of "let's give it a try" and "anything can be accomplished" will always be remembered and admired by all he knew.

Perhaps Dan can best be described as a kind, quiet soul, sprinkled with curiosity, strength, and tenacity.

Dan is survived by his devoted wife, Theresa, and his children, Jennifer Gibbons, Elizabeth (Brian) Weinandt, and Aaron (Jamie) Gibbons. He is "Poppie" to five grandchildren, Alyssa (Callen) Gavic, Bryce and Brett Weinandt, and Claire and Paige Gibbons. He is further survived by family members Patrick (Silvia) Gibbons, Casey (Frank) Tuttolomondo, Erica (Matt) Kowalski, Dana Tuttolomondo, Barbara (Dennis) Kankowske, Naomi (Fernando) Avila and Nathan (Maria) Kankowske.

He is preceded in death by his parents Timothy and Alice Gibbons, and parents-in-law, Walter and Helena Bednarz.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the UW Hospital, VA Hospital, and Agrace Hospice staff for their dedication, kindness, and compassionate care.

Please no flowers.  Memorials in Dan's name may be made to Hodan Community Services in Mineral Point,  Mineral Point Public Library, Verona Public Library, and Agrace Hospice.

A celebration of life will be held at STONE PORCH ALE HOUSE, 950 Kimball Lane, Verona, WI on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be provided.
