Along The Ad Routes

The word “April Showers” has really come true this past week. We had rain following Tuesday’s JV baseball game here. We had a few sprinkles on Saturday with rain and storms on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. In fact, it was to rain Wednesday with a break in the action Thursday, but more rain expected on Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

The one big thing I like about when it rains is hearing the birds chirping when it is done! That is a soothing sound to me!

The Dodgeville High School Baseball Team is getting a real treat when they play Portage at the Milwaukee Brewers Park (American Family Field) in Milwaukee this afternoon (Thursday) The outfield fences aren’t much deeper than the ones at Centennial Park in Dodgeville, but with all the seats around it sure seems bigger! Playing on a field like that is a “once in a lifetime” experience!

We’ve got some road construction starting April 20 on the expressway 18/151 coming into Dodgeville from the east and by the roundabout along with at the Culver’s intersection on the north end of Dodgeville. This work is expected to go on into August, but traffic will not be shut down, but may have stops and move slowly.

Here’s my little driving story for the week. I was heading into the downtown Kwik Trip, coming from the north. I was going to turn in at the closest entrance. There was another vehicle coming from the north and put his directional on to turn into its closest entrance - not the same one I was turning into. Well, that driver decided ot to turn  in and headed straight for me as I was turning! Boy was that scarey!

Our Saturday morning breakfast took us a short drive to the southeast and Stroz Inn in Hollandale. Terry and Tom had to be back to help the “Sleep In Heavenly Peace” crew make beds so kids don’t have to sleep on the floor! It was Terry, Tom, Bob and I leaving Dodgeville at 7:30 to head to Stroz and meet Dave Stone there. Dave Whitford was there when we arrived, so he joined us for a while. We were curious as to what the construction was near Dave’s storage sheds. He told us it was a new county garage. Jen (owner) greeted us when we arrived. We go way back, and got a hug from her! We had to wait for Stone to get there, so we drank some coffee, juice and water for a few minutes. When Dave arrived we ordered. Bob and I had veggie omelettes with ham while Terry had a ham & cheese omelette. They were huge and I added American fries with cheese and onions. I barely finished mine. Terry just got through his and Bob needed a carryout! Tom had eggs and bacon while Dave had pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream. It was all very yummy and filling! After we ordered, Sarah Dannenberg brought our food and kept our coffee cups filled while Jen cooked!

We still need more chefs that want to make grilled cheese specialties for the April 25th Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championships that will be held right here in Dodgeville - at Harris Park, inside of Ley Pavilion. The number of entries depict how many VIP tickets that can be sold. There’s a lot of work and cost to make this event happen and we are also short on volunteers! Please volunteer your time for some of it and if you can cook, that’d be great! I can’t cook, but I have been a part of it sine it was moved to Dodgeville and it is a great day with a lot of fun for the entire family. It starts at 11:00 a.m. and goes until 4:00 p.m.

Another event happening that same day is the Annual Dodgeville Garage Sales throughout the entire community.

It’s about 3 weeks before the “Cruizin the Courthouse” opener - formerly Cars ‘n Coffee. Remember it’s now the 2nd Thursday of the month through October and not the 2nd Saturday! It will now run from 5:00 p.m. until dusk.

I couldn’t resist checking to see what this day stood for. Friday, April 17 is National Blah! Blah! Blah! Day. It  is celebrated annually on April 17th to encourage people to act on nagging advice, finish pending tasks, or embrace and laugh off the "blah" feeling. Founded by Thomas and Ruth Roy from Wellcat Holidays, it is a day to stop procrastinating and finally tackle the things you've been putting off

I am a traditional Blah Blah Blah person!
