Cardinals stay in first with Potosi win

Potosi was able to sneak out a win in the third set Thursday but Highland took the other three.

The 3-1 win keeps the Cardinals in first place in the Six Rivers West at 5-0.  After Thursday’s win the Cardinals moved to 7-2.

Scores were 25-18, 25-16, 23-25, 25-16.

“It was a good win,” coach Maria Wineski said.  “We did have some problems in the third set but it was more what we did to ourselves than what they did.  We made too many silly mistakes.”

“We need to work on not letting that happen,” said Wineski.

The Cardinals were up 10-3 when Potosi went on their run.  They eventually led 15-12 and it was back and forth after that.

“We lost focus and they got us,” Wineski said.

But the Potosi success was shortlived as the Cardinals put the match away with a win in the fourth set.

“I am proud of the girls with how they bounced back,” said Wineski.
