Olson, Julia (Judy) Elizabeth

Julia (Judy) Elizabeth Olson, age 84, of Mineral Point, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville, surrounded by her loving family.

Judy was born on May 21, 1941, in Dodgeville, WI to James and Katherine (McCluskey) Mitchell. She was the sixth of seven children who proudly grew up on their two family farms in Dodgeville, one that is now part of Governor Dodge State Park. After graduating from Dodgeville High School in 1959, Judy married Delbert Olson of Mineral Point on January 23, 1960. Together they raised six children in Mineral Point and were blessed with eleven grandchildren, eight great-granddaughters, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Judy was a stay-at-home mom for much of her adult life. As the children became older, she worked at Borg Industries in Darlington, before working at and retiring from Lands’ End in Dodgeville. Judy was a member of St. Mary’s & St. Paul’s Church in Mineral Point. She was a member of the MP Wrestling Booster Club, and a Boy Scout Den Mother. In retirement, Judy enjoyed volunteering with residents of The Mineral Point Care Center. Her greatest love in life was attending events of her children and grandchildren with Delbert. Judy was especially passionate about spending quality time with family during the holidays. Family get-togethers meant the world to her.

Judy enjoyed baking, reading, ceramics, and word searches. Baking with family during Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons was exceptionally special to her. Judy was incredibly fond of her cats while also enjoying gambling trips and scrapbooking with friends. Judy loved to travel, with Branson, New York City, San Diego, and New Orleans being some of her favorite places. Her trip to Ireland with her daughter, Sharon, and her Alaskan cruise with Delbert were at the top of her travel memories.

Judy will be forever missed by her devoted husband of 65 years, Delbert; her children, Julie Olson, Jeneene (Mike) McConley, John (Angie) Olson, Brian (Michelle) Olson, Gary (Jennifer) Olson, and Sharon Olson; her eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her brother, Bill (Judy) Mitchell, and many special nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother in-law John and Marion Olson; her siblings Rosemary (Joe) Zellers, Bob MItchell, Charlie (Pat) MItchell, Elaine (Stoney) Stonestreet, and Jimmie Mitchell; as well as her in-laws Mildred and Leslie Stephenson, and Bob Quirk.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Mineral Point Rescue Squad, and the staff at Upland Hills Health for their exceptional and compassionate care of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at St. Mary & St. Paul Catholic Church in Mineral Point. Fr. Alex Carmel will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:30 until 10:50 a.m. at St. Mary & St. Paul Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Iowa County Humane Society, or the Mineral Point Public Library.
