Butter in Our Schools Act
Dear Editor,
As the leading farm organization in Iowa County and the state of Wisconsin, The Iowa County Farm Bureau commends Sen. Marklein and Rep. Novak for their collaborative effort to require schools serve natural butter to our children. Unless a person has an allergy, butter is the healthiest choice for most students (and adults for that matter).
When Iowa County Farm Bureau recently held our annual meeting, the topic was brought up, of butter substitutes being the only option in local schools. The membership rose up in a spirited discussion. Both Novak and Marklein were quick to voice their support for legislation requiring the healthy choice of butter at our school’s meal tables.
Wisconsin has a strong tradition of being America’s Dairyland. According to UW studies, our Wisconsin Dairy industry contributes over $52 billion of economic activity annually to this state. Dairy also contributes over 120,000+ jobs on and off farms. Dairy farmers also pay a large amount of local property taxes in support of these same schools.
Please contact your reps and show your support for this legislation
Thank you to our local reps for their support of the vital dairy industry
Sincerely,
