Along The Ad Routes

It’s Ice Wolves Hockey time as the season started this last week. Even though we have the coldest rink in the area, it’s a good time there and you see some pretty darn good hockey. Plus the concession stand is heated!

The Dodgeville High School Musical “Cinderella” begins tomorrow (Friday) at the DHS Auditorium. You should come and see the talent in the area. It plays Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. with both a Saturday and Sunday matinee at 2:00 p.m. It’s an old tale with a unique spin of political uncertainty and revolutionary ideas!

There are a few signed up, but more sign-ups are needed so they can be positioned for the route. You can sign up on the chamber website, call or stop in. There will be a “Free”movie at 11:00 a.m. at the Dodge Theatre - non-perishable food item suggested for entry. Also there is a cookie walk and vendor fairs with Santa showing up - and more!

Saturday morning breakfast took us to a “fun” and great place to eat. We went a little to the northwest to Muscoda and ate at Vicki’s Cozy Cafe. Their menu will take you a half hour to read with such things as “Old Blue Balls” (blueberry pancakes) to Garbage Plate or Dumpster Plate or “Hotter than a Hooter” Omelette! The place was nearly full when we arrived about 8:05 (they open at 8:00), but the table that is in the round that seats five or more was still open. So, it was Bob, Terry, Tom, Potsie, Royce and me getting there and meeting Jim Kosharek there. We squeezed seven in the booth, but there wasn’t room for any more! Tiffani, our usual waitress, dropped off two menues on her way by and a young fellow brought us our drinks - coffee, orange juice, water and a Pepsi for Potsie. He also brought a full big pitcher of water that we demolished before Bob could even get any. Tiffini, her usual smiling self (who doesn’t want to be there!) took our order and filled our coffee cups and water pitcher in between taking other orders. Finally she had some help come out and give her a little break. With the small kitchen they have there I don’t know how they get food out so fast! Everybody ate everything on their plates except - you guessed it - Bob! I even ate my huge omelette with hash browns, cheese and onions plus my toast! All the time we were there and even as we were leaving, people were coming in to fill any empty table. It was almost like they knew when one was going to become empty!

We took the County Q back to Highland route on our way back to Dodgeville, and we always get a history lesson on who lives there or used to live there from Bob and Tom. Bob’s family farm is on that road and Tom tested milk at many of the farms around there for many years. One farm mentioned is that of a Machovec family whose daughter was once Alice in Dairyland. Another is a farm that Joe Thomas, former Green Bay Packers linebacker, bought.

Good luck to area football teams Darlington and Potosi/Cassville who are both playing for a state tournament berth this coming Friday night.

Today, Thursday, November 13, is World Kindness Day. It’s a day to highlight good deeds, promote kindness, and raise awareness of its positive impact on individuals and communities. It encourages people to perform simple acts of kindness, like helping a neighbor or volunteering, to create a ripple effect of goodwill and build a more compassionate world. The day also serves as a reminder to practice kindness toward ourselves and others. It was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, a coalition of nations' kindness NGOs. It is observed in many countries, including Canada, Australia, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates. Singapore observed the day for the first time in 2009. It is a day we should observe every day, not just on November 13!
