Born on November 7, 1951 in Newberry, he was a son of the late George Oliver and Josie Derrick Hiller. He was a graduate of Mid-Carolina High School and the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. He served as a police officer for the town of Prosperity then after moving to Wisconsin, he worked with the Iowa County Sheriff's Department, the Mineral Point Police Department, and the Iowa County Highway Department. Von also served on the Dodgeville City Council, and was instrumental in starting the Iowa County Santa Cop program. He was a member of the Iowa County Law Enforcement Association and taught hunter safety classes for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and having cookouts with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lease Hiller; a daughter, Brandie Hiller Greenwood of Prosperity; a son, Jeremy (Jennifer) Hiller of Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren, Jozie Greenwood, Paizlie Greenwood, Ethan Armijo, and Stone Armijo; a special niece, BJ (Jimmy) Rawlings, and a sister-in-law, Bennie Sue Hiller. He was predeceased by brothers, Wayne Hiller and Billy Hiller.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, March 19, 2023 in South Carolina. A memorial service is being planned for later in Wisconsin.
