Erickson, Ellen Louise Cox
Ellen Louise Cox Erickson passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
Born Sept. 8, 1931 at Dodgeville General Hospital to Blanche Gant Cox and G. Vernon Cox. Ellen had two children Karyle Elyse (Dallas Johnson) and Kim David (Claire) Erickson.
Ellen was predeceased by her parents, brother George, and daughter, Karyle.
Ellen is survived by her son Kim and his wife Claire, grandchildren Angela (Spencer) Straub, Kimberly (Josh) Hill, David (Andrea) Erickson, and Katy (Daniel) Schulz. Ellen treasured her thirteen great-grandchildren: Karolyn Straub; Cody, Zoe, Jolie, and Sophie Hill; Brenden, Elena, Tessa, and Bennett Erickson; and Hudson, Harper, Hannah, and Henry Schulz.
Ellen was a lifelong learner and educator and began her teaching career at Fort Defiance School in 1950. She also taught at Farmer, Moscow Center, Blanchardville, and Jonesdale Schools before her long-time career at Mineral Point Elementary School where she retired in 1996 after 38 years of teaching Mineral Point's first graders. Ellen taught Sunday School and played organ at Waldwick Church, as well as singing for weddings and funerals. Ellen belonged to the Mineral Point Historical Society, UW-Platteville Alumni, and Mineral Point retired teachers groups.
Ellen loved polka dancing and traveling with friends during her career. After retirement; in addition to traveling to over 55 countries, enjoying Friday breakfasts with her high school classmates, and attending Badger football games with her daughter and son-in-law, Ellen did genealogy research for family history and loved to share the information she found.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 12:00 at the Waldwick Community Church. Pastor David Ritchie will officiate. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the church. Burial will be in the Jackson Cemetery in rural Waldwick.
