David grew up in the Barneveld area, attending school at Meadow Grove and graduating from Barneveld High School. He went on to attend the short course program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During this time, he met Mary Ann Nelson and they were married on Feb. 20, 1965, at Perry Lutheran Church in Daleyville. David and Mary farmed and raised a family at the edge of Mount Horeb. David's life and breath were farming. He was very proud of his cows and his farm and those that worked beside him.
David is survived by his wife, Mary, of 57 years; daughter, Melanie (Joel Biermeier); son, Marc (Jessica); sister, Karen (Fred Meyer); brothers, Dennis (Vicki) and Darcy; sisters-in-law, Jane Powell and Betty Powell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Myron Nelson and Mary Ann Nelson; grandchildren, Michael Powell; Jaedan, Aaron, Isaiah, Nathaniel and Jocelyn Biermeier; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Jr.; in-laws, Morris and Adeline Nelson; and brother-in-law, Roger Nelson.
A memorial service will be held at Perry Lutheran Church, 1057 WI-78 Trunk, Mount Horeb, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, with Pastor John Twiton officiating. Visitation was held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the will be held on Saturday. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
