They farmed together on Maurice's family's farm on Old Q in rural Blanchardville. They then farmed together on various farms throughout the years, retiring from farming in 1969. They raised 8 children together. She was a devoted wife and mother. She also waitressed, worked at Oaktron and Swiss Colony in Monroe, cleaned at Yellowstone Lutheran Church for 32 years, and cleaned at businesses in Argyle. She loved making doughnuts, bread, and cooking for her family. They were members of the Pecatonica Valley Antique Club where she was a past treasurer. She and Maurice traveled all over attending antique equipment shows. They were members of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle.
Hedwig is survived by seven children, Merin (Marcia) Wahl of Mineral Point, Michael (Cyndi) Wahl of Mineral Point, Maynard (Jane) Wahl of New Glarus, Marcy Wahl of Argyle, Maureen (Robert) Prestbroten of Blanchardville, Myles (Lori) Wahl of Blanchardville and Marlyn (Michele) Wahl of Blanchardville; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Jean Hendrickson of Blanchardville; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Maurice who died on July 10, 2009, one son, Meldan who died on September 19, 1976; six sisters, Christine Zimmerman, Lillian Bigger, Anna Minnig, Mary Jensen, Catherine Uebersetzig and Leona Rundhaug; and one brother Henry Gruenenfelder.

Visitation will be held on Friday morning February 10, 2023, from 9:00 until 10:45 AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM. The service will be live cast for the public on the Saether Funeral Service Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/saetherfuneralservice. Fr. Michael Johnson of St. Isidore Parish will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Blanchardville followed by a funeral lunch at the Blanchardville American Legion Post. Saether Funeral Service in Blanchardville is assisting the family.
