James J. "Jake" Fitzsimons, age 92, of Dodgeville, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 7, 2023 at Lafayette Manor in Darlington. Jake was born on January 30, 1931 near Mineral Point to Russell and Florence (Chappell) Fitzsimons. He was a 1949 graduate of the Mineral Point High School. Jake served in the U.S. Navy in Naples, Italy as well as at Bethesda, MD and Camp Lejune. He married Lil Brown on February 5, 1955 and they enjoyed 68 years together. Jake farmed for many years and also worked at the Mineral Point Post Office for nine years. He umpired for High School and Home Talent Baseball for over 50 years. He was a proud member of the Hollandale American Legion Post 510 and the Jonesdale Sportsman's Club. Besides umpiring, Jake followed the Cubs and enjoyed history.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Bill Palcek.

Jake is survived by his wife, Lil of Dodgeville; a daughter, Leila Fitzsimons of Albuquerque, NM and her children, Robbie (Dane) Jacobs and Tonie (John) Warble; two sons, Jeff Fitzsimons of Seneca-Eastman and his children, Sarah (Eric) Parks, Justin (Kaley) Fitzsimons and Jonathon Fitzsimons and his finance' Kristie Thudium; Christopher (Mary) Fitzsimons of Cross Plains and their children, Stacey (Kevin) Soden and Kelsey (Jason) Hock; five great grandchildren, Jack, Cire, Jaxon, Olivia and Liam; three sisters, Patricia (Carl) Schneider; Sally (Richard) Cox and Susan Palcek as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.
