50 years and counting

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

As the clock ticks down on the year 2018 it comes to mind that I have been with this paper for 50 years.
I cannot imagine how many words I have written (or how many were misspelled) but I know there have been enough to circle the earth many times.
I hope the words have meant something to our many readers. In an age where newspapers and the media in general are targeted and usually under attack I can honestly say I have done my best to always find the truth and write about it. To me, that is the way a newspaper should be written.
I have been lucky over the years to find people who have joined our staff that feel the same way. It is refreshing to see staff writers go that extra mile to make sure what they are writing is as accurate as possible.
Also, as the newspapers around us are being swallowed up by corporations, we have no intention of selling out to the highest bidder. My goal is to keep our newspaper locally owned and operated by people who live here and care about the area.
So as the year ends, Happy New Year to all and I hope 2019 is good to all of us.
