Always a challenge
By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com
is never a dull moment.
This past year we added two young women to our reporting staff
at The Dodgeville Chronicle and never a day goes by that they do
not do something to amaze me. They are bright, articulate, ambitious
and show a real desire to get the facts right.
I guess you could say they keep me on my toes and that is a good
thing.
After being in this profession the past 46 years it is good to be
challenged every day by these two young writers. They have a
bright future no matter where they are and hopefully that where is
here.
Recently I wrote a letter of recommendation for a young man
wanting to get into the UW School of Journalism. Part of what I
said was I have the utmost respect for anyone who will go into a
profession where the hours are long, the pay is short and the challenges
many. I hope he gets into the school of journalism if that is
what he truly wants.
I also hope those in the business here know how much I appreciate
each and every one of them. The girls are great additions but
so are those who have been here through everything the past 20 or
so years.
Community journalism has its ups and downs but the people you
work with and the people you meet make it all worthwhile.
