The untimely death of Robin Williams

I was shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Hollywood funny guy Robin Williams on Monday. I remember watching many movies in which he was in, including Aladdin (one of my favorite Disney movies), Mrs. Doubtfire and Jumanji, to name a few.
A lot of times when celebrities pass away, I don't give much thought to it. But this time was different.
It has come out in the media that Williams committed suicide. It leaves me thinking that even one of America's funniest men was fighting something inside that nobody could see. And that even though he made America laugh, he was unhappy himself inside.
I've met many people who have dealt with personal battles such as depression. Please let me tell you that suicide is not the answer.
If you or someone you know is battling depression, thinking of suicide or just needs someone to talk to in the case of a mental health emergency, there are people there to help.
If you are uncomfortable speaking with someone you know, such as friends, family or co-workers, please feel safe knowing you can call the Madison 24-Hour Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Hotline 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 608-208-2600.
In Iowa County, a mental health crisis hotline is also open 24/7 and hosted by Unified Community Services. They can be reached at 800-362-5717. In Grant County, Great Rivers 211 can be contacted with any sort of issue 24/7 at 800-362-8255.
Online resources also include suicidepreventionlifeline.org.
Please know that suicide is never the answer. And that sometimes even the seemingly happiest among men may be battling something deep inside.
