It is our turn to be heard

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

The attendance at the meeting held to talk about the heroin problem included a good mix of youth, young adults and older adults. I am sure they heard what was said and went away from the meeting well aware that the heroin problem is heading toward epidemic proportions.
One thing that most of the speakers discussed was the lack of funding to fight the problem and hopefully in some way contain it.
The sad fact is that money is tight in every area of government from the local to the state to the federal level. But that should not be a reason for those who set budgets to turn their backs on the heroin problem and refuse to help fight it because of costs.
Why do people sell drugs?
Because it is a huge money maker for them or for those who supply drugs. So it stands to reason that one way to fight the problem is to put out some money for treatment and to help law enforcement in their mission to keep drugs off our streets.
We all know people in government at some level. This is the time to make your feelings known and demand that funding be available to fight a problem that is on its way to destruction.
It is time to take a stand and demand that money be set aside for what could be the fight of our lives.
