Pointers explode in second half
The Pointers won the make-up game 75-44. They expanded a 26-19 halftime lead with 27 points in the third quarter and finished with 22 in the fourth.
The Pointers had four players in double figures and one more with nine points. They also more than owned the boards.
Turner Poad found his rhythm and gunned in 17 points to lead the Pointers. He also collected 10 rebounds for a double double.
Trevor Wendhausen was next with 16 points. He and Sy Staver, who added 12 points, both had seven in the third quarter as the Pointers outshot the Golden Eagles 27-15.
Cory Schultz was the fourth player in double figures with 11 and he was a bull on the boards with 16 rebounds.
Alec Schmitz came off the bench to add nine points and Chanler Leonard picked up 20 rebounds in four quarters.
Nine players scored for the Pointers of the 12 that played.
It was a good night for the Pointers, said coach Dan Burreson.
"It was a good solid effort tonight," Burreson said. "We are getting positive contributions from a number of guys."
He said the boardwork the Pointers turned in was something he had not seen before.
"We had three players with double digit rebounds tonight. I don't recall ever having that before," he said.
Burreson also commented on several of his players who turned in quality performances.
"Cory Schultz continues to play hard and play well," he said.
"Turner Poad added a double double of his own with 17 points and 10 rebounds along with another solid defensive performance. Chanler Leonard also hauled in 20 rebounds."
"Sy Staver continues to do a nice job and tonight he had 12 points to go along with eight assists."
"Trevor Wendhausen was our fourth player in double figures with 16 points and another strong all around performance."
"Alec Schmitz continues to return to form adding nine points and Ian Ewers did some good things on both ends of the floor tonight," Burreson said. "I really like the progress we are making. We need to continue to improve everyday."
The Pointers face Iowa-Grant on Bo Ryan Court at UW-Platteville Friday at 8 p.m.
They have a make-up game with Potosi Monday.
