Panthers regroup to take down Redbirds
The Redbirds won the first game 25-18 but the Panthers answered with a 25-12 shocker in game two. They went on to win the match with scores of 25-20 and 25-16.
Stats for the Panthers were:
Kills: Kaci Myers - 10, Ashley Liddicoat - 9, Jackie Olson - 8
Blocks: Myers, Taylor Holder and Paige Springer, two each.
Assists: Emily Warne - 29
Aces: Rhean Engelke and Emily Warne, 4 each.
Digs: Jackie Olson - 3
"We started out flat, missing lots of serves but finally found somewhat of rhythm," said coach Marla Simon. "I think with a lot going on, Senior Night & Hall of Fame, we just weren't focused to start."
But the Panthers regrouped and pulled out the win with back to back to back decisions.
"Kaci Myers kept us in ball games with her serves, leading with 12 service points, along with Emily having 12 also," Simon said. "We once again had a pretty balanced attack with Kaci and Ashley leading us with 10 and 9 respectively, while Jackie had 8."
Once again it wasn't an easy win in the SWAL season.
"You always have to be careful with teams that don't have a great record, like Darlington, as they have nothing to lose," Simon said. "They played us tough."
The Panthers start WIAA post season play Tuesday when they host New Glarus.
"We are hoping to have a good week of practices before our first round tourney game with New Glarus next Tuesday at home," Simon said.
