Dodgers battle Prairie boys in 52-47 loss

Both Austin Larson and Jake Bechen had good looks at game-tying three pointers Friday night against SWC favorite Prairie du Chien. Larson's, from the side, was right on line, but just long. Bechen's, from out front/left, went down, spun around and did everything except go down.
After Larson's miss, he went to the basket for an open pass and lay-in to cut the Prairie lead to ne at 44-8-47 with 15.1 seconds remaining. They fouled at the 12.1 mark and Blackhawk Cole Pattison calmly made both free throws for a 50-47 lead.
After Bechen's shot, the Dodgers were forced to foul again and Dillon Mezera made both end of his tosses for the 52-47 final.
It was an overcome night for the host Dodgers. They dug themselves hole right away in the first quarter as Prairie scored the game's first 11 points. By the end of the first frame, however, they had held the Blackhawks without any additional points and were down only 11-7. They knotted the score at 11 and from there on out it was a 1-4 point game.
The score was tied 19 all at halftime and the Dodgers held a 42-41 lead after three.
"We struggled early in the first quarter and then battled to get back into it and then played them neck and neck the rest of the way," said Dodger coach Ryan Bohnsack. "Prairie is a good team. They are well coached and they are defending you in your face all the time. I commend our guys for their effort. It's what I want to see out of them."
Prairie senior Conner Morovits led all scorers with 18 points, including seven in the fourth quarter and going 4x4 from the free throw line.
"Teamwise I thought we did a nice job defensively. Kristian (Haag) was everywhere Conner was. He made him work for every point he got. Every guy out there hustled to stay on their guy."
Morovits was the lone Prairie player to hit double figures.
For the Dodgers, senior Jake Bechen them with 15 points with junior Nick Crowley adding 11.
"I'm excited in what our kids are doing, battling each other in practice. We're getting better," Bohnsack concluded.
The Dodgers host Richland Center Friday night in a SWC match-up and go to Monticello the following Tuesday in non-conference play.
