Thoughts on Hilgenberg's service

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

It is hard to say goodbye to Wisconsin Assemblyman Steve Hilgenberg.

The 65 year old Hilgenberg announced this week that he will not be seeking re-election for the 51st District assembly seat. He has served two successful terms on the Democratic ticket.

The key word there is successful. One thing that Hilgenberg has been is successful.

That is because Hilgenberg has been a hard worker and honest at the same time. You always knew when Steve spoke, what came out of his mouth was the truth.

That is something that does not always happen in politics. Fortunately for us, we have benefited from his straight forwardness.

Hilgenberg said the reason for not seeking another term is because of health concerns. He has been having trouble walking and standing because of back problems.

But, no one has stood taller or walked prouder than Hilgenberg. And we are better off because of it.

Instead of saying good bye to Hilgenberg, who will remain as active as possible on the political scene, we would rather say thank you.

Your service has been exemplary and we are better off because of it.
