Hot shooting Cardinals run past Panthers
If anyone has any doubts that Highland guard Spencer Linscheid has not recovered from a pre-season football injury just ask the Iowa-Grant boys squad.
With the game within seven points at halftime Linscheid took off on an 11 point run by himself to boost a 30-23 score to 41-23 and the Cardinals never looked back.
The Cardinals picked up a 20 point win--69-49--in the non-conference first outing for both teams.
Mitchell Welsh and Linscheid led the Cardinals with 22 and 21 points. The combined for five of Highland's nine three pointers with Linscheid hitting three and Welsh two.
"Those two are very tough to defend," Iowa-Grant coach Ryan Hill said. "They shot well and eventually got the jump on us. We didn't play well defensively."
"It was a good shooting night,"said Paul Wedig, Highland's head coach. "We shot well and got our defensive rotations down."
"The big thing for us was that our captains, Spencer and Mitchell, kept everyone calm and made sure we stuck to our game plan," Wedig added. "They did everything they could to get us the win."
Freshman Isaac Hill led the Panthers with 17 points. He found the deep range for a trio of three pointers.
"We struggled," coach Ryan Hill said. "We are young and it showed. We need short term memory on this one, put it behind us and get back to it. We have Lancaster coming up and we have a lot of work to do to get ready."
