arrested after pursuit
Several law enforcement agencies responded early Saturday morning to a report of a motorist wanted by Lafayette County authorities for criminal activity in their county. After the motorist refused to stop, a pursuit ensued, with speeds reaching up to 100 mph.
According to a release from the Iowa County Sheriff's Department, the suspected vehicle, a full sized truck, was spotted by an Iowa County deputy at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Highway 23 south of Mineral Point. When the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit was engaged.
The vehicle entered Highway 151 and continued north towards Dane County. The truck hit a set of stop sticks by Barneveld, but the tecnique failed to deflate the tires of the vehicle nor stop the vehicle immediately.
The truck did eventually come to a stop between Mount Horeb and Verona, where the driver, Blake Herman, 17, Darlington, was arrested for operating while intoxicated (first offense) and felony fleeing an officer. Herman was taken into custody and later released to a responsible party.
There were no reported injuries and no reported damage as a result of the pursuit. A 17-year-old passenger was also taken into custody and later released to a responsible party.
Agencies responding included the Iowa County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Mount Horeb Police Department, Verona Police Department, Mineral Point Police Department, Barneveld Police Department and the Dane County Sheriff's Office.
