Iowa man is second traffic fatality of 2017

An Iowa man died as a result of a truck versus tractor traffic accident that occurred on U.S. Highway 151 near Exit 44 Monday afternoon.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 20, Iowa County Dispatch was notified of a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 151 north of State Road 23 in the Town of Dodgeville, about a half of a mile north of Mile Marker 44.
A 2012 GMC Sierra pick up truck, driven by Jeffrey J. Kirby, 31, LeClaire, IA, was travelling northbound on U.S. Highway 151 when it struck the rear of a tillage implement that was also travelling northbound on 151 in the right lane of traffic. The tillage implement, being operated at a reduced rate of speed, was being pulled by a Challenger (Cat) farm tractor, driven by John J. Spraggon, 30, Fennimore.
A release from the Iowa County Sheriff's Office stated that when Kirby's truck struck the tillage equipment attached to the tractor, all three vehicles skidded into the median of U.S. Highway 151, and came to rest there.
Dodgeville EMS and the Dodgeville Fire Department responded to the scene, with EMS rushing Kirby to Upland Hills Health, where he was pronounced deceased by Iowa County Coroner Wendell Hamlin.
The sheriff's department reported that Kirby was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Spraggon was wearing a seat belt, and was uninjured in the crash.
The crash is still under investigation. Also assisting at the scene was Wisconsin State Patrol and the Iowa County Highway Department.
Traffic was rerouted through Dodgeville as parts of Highway 151 were closed during the reconstruction of the accident Monday evening.
